When Tropical Storm Boris devastates the fishing fleet of her small Jalisco coastal town, 24-year-old apprentice shipwright Mariel Solórzano sees what her grieving father cannot: the cheap fiberglass pangas snapped, but the old wooden boats her family builds survived. To save her father's failing taller, train a new generation, and prove that traditional craft can outlast the storms to come, she must learn to take up tools her father is still afraid to set down.
